Furthermore,\nit\u2019s also to protect the Bukit Batabuh Protected Forest. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\nhave proven that Jernang is increasing people&#8217;s income. (Yield) one hectare of\nJernang is equivalent to fifteen hectares of oil palm\u201d, said the leader of the Bukik\nIjau Community Forest Group, Hendri Yanto in a press statement to Antara in\nPekanbaru on Tuesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hendri have experienced the benefit of Jernang since the 90s. Like\nother rattan plants, Jernang requires trees to climb in obtaining light as a\nliving energy source (assimilation).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;This\nis why we believe that the Jernang commodity is the same as the symbol of\npreserving forests in Riau. This also means his enthusiasm is the same as the\nspirit of Riau Hijau which is being prepared by the Governor of Riau\u201d, said\nHendri Yanto.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because\nJernang needs tree to stands, when we plant Jernang, we also have to plant\ntrees. In other words, planting Jernang and keeping it growing, it is the same\nas replanting forests. Because, Jernang needs forests to grow and then produce\neconomic value for forest farmers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Since\n2016 we have started planting Jernang and other high-value local plants to\nimprove people&#8217;s livelihoods while preserving forests,&#8221; said Duski Samad,\nfrom the Mandiri Community Forest Group, Lubuk Ramo Village, Kuantan Singingi\nDistrict.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Duski\nSamad explained that currently there are dozens of community forest group in\nthe Bukit Batabuh Protection Forest. They are guided by the UPT KPH Singingi\nand empowered by Yayasan Hutanriau.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He\nsaid that villagers along the Bukit Batabuh Protected Forest are willingly to\nsupport the concept of &#8220;Riau Hijau&#8221;, which is now being formulated by\nRiau Governor Syamsuar. As is known, in its 100-day work program, Syamsuar was\nformulating the Riau Hijau concept by involving public participation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Moreover,\nWidya Astuti, the Director of Hutanriau said that all stakeholders has to\ncontribute in order to accelerate Riau Hijau.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The\ninitiative has started from the bottom, it is only need the support of the\nstakeholders starting from the University, Medical, Local Government and even\nthe Business Sector to jointly accelerate the realization of Riau Hijau,&#8221;\nsaid Widya.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According\nto Widya, the Hutanriau has been assisting the community surrounding Bukit Batabuh\nin increasing livelihoods for the community without cutting down the natural\nforest. As a result, farmers who were once illegal loggers have now committed\nto guarding the Bukit Batabuh Protected Forest by replanting the forest.
